Year 7’s	Activity	Wednesday	Merc	Camp

On Wednesday we went to Merc. We arrived at camp, we got all our staff out of the bus side.We saw all sorts of staff like giant ladders,a massive tree and rock climbing  wall but unfortunately we couldn't do it. We had to go inside of this building and put our staff in there after that a man showed us around we had to put our staff in the room.

After we went and did an activity. We had to hold pipes so that the ball can go through until it reached the bucket and fell into it. After that we got plenty of ropes for two people so that we could go around this type of bottle. We all came up with an idea. I had to go around the bottle meanwhile my partner and my class was standing I stopped it was the next person's turn then we kept on going until the rope was really tied around the bottle we all pulled as hard as we could without standing in the water and we got it out, it took for ages.

At the night time we played with some cards until it was nine o'clock because we had to have a shower. We played last card, I gave some cards to each person then we started. The first card was 3 of hearts. I put down my card three of clubs, I got lucky because I had all of the same cards and I said “Last cards.” When I said “Last card” the people that I played was shocked because not in  the second round people usually has different cards.Then it was my turn. I put down all 4s down then they continued.

The first day of camp was the best because we done cool activities to make our brain think even more.

   

Why Is Reading Important?

What do you think about reading?

Knowing how to read is really important because it can prepare you for everything in life and you can be a successful person. When you start to read you can increase your brain to think even more. You can read and discover heaps of ideas and big words. If you read a lot you can develop your reading skills and your thinking skills.

When you get a job you have to be a successful person in reading because if not you’ll never know if that job has of paper work there and you have to read them. So if I wasn’t a person that didn’t like to read I’ll start reading. Reading gives us information, reading helps us gain knowledge. The reason why we read every day is because it entertains ourselves.

People read fiction and nonfiction, fiction means those books are made up and nonfictions is real life events or true story. Books can bring us to a very scary place or it depends what kind of book you’re reading. People read and they work hard. When you read you could go to college, university and get a job, people get those things because they read in their daily lives.

Everybody wants to drive somewhere but you have to read the signs, if you don’t you might get lost,most importantly the stop sign because if we don’t stop we might cause an accident or we could die or get injured including the people that you had a accident with. Reading can be your key to unlock everything in life. When you write you have to go over your writing but you can’t because you can’t read it. When you go shopping you have to read the signs and if you can’t read the labels you don’t know where you’re going.

People can’t play any instruments because they can’t read the notes. Celebrities that are famous wouldn't be the artists they are without reading.

Do You Want Siblings?

LI: Write persuasive piece of writing using Ethos,Pathos and Logos.

Brothers and sisters are compassionate and thoughtful. They are like a friends, but better because when you are upset they are there for you and when you are in a situation they back you up.

Brothers and sisters should always stick up for each other. When you’re bored you can go outside and play with them. When they play with them they’re very physical. You love your sisters and brothers because when you are exhausted you can just go home and have a sleep and they can comfort you when your little. We always want to be with our siblings but we all know that we have to be separated when we grow up. We all go through a process of a human life. very cool life.    

Sometimes when you have little siblings they always want to go outside and play out in the sun and when it’s raining  there are little puddles and they like to play in it, it’s like a little pool to them. If we are sick our brothers and sisters are there for you. You can always rely on your brothers and sisters, we have to take care of them because they’re relying on us too

Having siblings are the BEST!

 Getting clothes dirty because I might get in trouble from my parents. I don't like facing all the new things that I do. Some people will come and invade your privacy. I don’t like sharing rooms because some people will be nosy. Eating the food because the food might of been food poisoned, and if I get sick I will have to be sent of to home in a taxi because if I stay I’ll get everybody else sick to and I will have to miss out all the activities. If I get lost I’ll be hungry and be dehydrated. Also I don’t like Stingrays because they can sting you. I’m afraid of heights because that’s my greatest fare.

Merc is on  Beach Road in Auckland. At Merc there are a range of activities to do.  Some of these include: rock climbing, archery,sailing,rock exploring and  learn about survival skills.  Many schools go  to camp to have some new outdoor experiences. Merc is a non profit organisation, (not a business) You need to be trained if you want to be a Merc person.

Could you be trusted with your partner?

Our teacher counted us up to numbers of 1-2.  You are not allowed on the grass. Number 1 had to lead the way so that the other person could not bang into something because they will not injure themselves. You have to tell the instruction for example if I was  person 1 I’ll tell him to go left right. When you see steps you say stairs before  you get there.  Once you reach your destination you can tell your friend that it is alright to open up your eyes.   

Once you get to the gate you swap partners. You are now allowed to go on the grass. This activity is the same thing as the first activity but longer and harder. You have to swap partners the person who was number 1 has to be number 2. You go onto the grass and go around the park and go inside. You can go around your house, shed,school and others. Once you are done you can tell number 2 that he/she can open up his/her eyes.   

Then we went inside our classroom and try to make a mess using the equipment around the classroom. You go and spin another person but his eyes are closed this is just like hot and cold but you have to listen to the other person instructions because if you didn't you would get hurt from the objects. You could go down the tables go up side and others. You just listen to your partner. You get spun around and you have to try to get out of the maze. He will say “go under up left and right”. When you get back safely then that’s the end of the activity.

Become more active with basketball!

Basketball is a sport that keeps you fit. It’s a game played between two teams of five players and the players have a netted Basketball at each end of the court.

In Basketball, the player have to get in their  positions and the main position is  point guard. The point guard passes the ball so that his or her team mates can can get a goal.

Then the person with the ball has to try and get away from the person that is marking them. If the person without the ball hits the person with the ball it’s called a “Foul” and the person that got hit without the ball gets a free shot .

Basketball is very important because it keeps you fit and healthy. Basketball helps us to build a lot of strength. If you do a lot of training, you might be able to make a dunk one day.

I know this when I use adjectives and verbs to describe people.

Slow down sun, slow down sun!

On Friday,Miss Chao chose 4 captains for the Maori song performance. Ingrid was one of the captains. We told the story of  Maui and the sun. We had to perform after lunch and if we did not know our lines, we might mess it up for our group. So we practised our lines and I had the easy lines because they were short.

After I practised my lines, I went to go and get my costume. I was dressed up as the sun, Lasike was dressed up as Maui and Siu was dressed as Maui’s brother.  They started practicing their lines.

Lasike knew his lines off by heart and Siu knew some of his lines.

After lunch we performed in front of the class. Miss Chao picked the captain’ names out of a bag to decide the order.  Ingrid was the narrator. Maui thought that the sun went down too fast and there wasn’t any time to do anything. He could not see his food so he called his brother to came. When the brother came, he said to Maui “I can not hunt or eat”. Then Maui came up with a plan to catch the sun. They jumped out from behind the rock and tied up the sun. The sun said “Let me go!” Maui and Mana let the sun go after some struggle. From that day on, the sun slowed down so Muai and his friend can see and hunt.

After the performance we all felt proud of ourselves because we all tried our best.

 WALT celebrate and incorporate the Maori culture into our lives.

Movies with my sisters!

On Saturday I watched ‘The purge anarchy’.

It all started, when the president made a rule that you can kill anyone for a set 12 hour period. The purge started after the horn went off. The people that are rich could protect themselves properly but the poor couldn't. The police couldn't do anything until the  purge was over. There were 5 people that protected the land. Everyone that had a grudge against someone started acting crazy and killing people. All the Gangs came out and started attacking poor people’s houses, because they looked down on them. They shot down one of the doors and nearly shot the girl that was inside the house.Then the gang took the girls near the butcher man’s truck and the girls nearly got shot. Then a man came and killed the bad guys. When the man saved the two girls, they went back to the car and there were two other people that wanted to help.

I fell asleep while I was watching the movie. After the movie ended, my sister and I went to go play outside. We played passes with the rugby ball and if we dropped the ball, then we are out. My sister dropped it first so I got one point. Then my other sister came and said can “I play with you guys?” I asked “Why do you want to play with us?”

She said “I was bored in my room”. So we started playing again and I had to rub off my point.  We started passing the ball and my older sister dropped it, so she was out for good. Then it was just me and my 2nd oldest sister left in the game.  she was hard to get out so I gave up and she won the whole game.

After we finished playing, we took a nap because we were all so tired. Then we had dinner and we had fish and chips, it was yummy. Then I went into my bedroom and put warm blankets on the bed. After I put the blankets on my bed. I fell asleep. It was the best day ever.

Valentines with my family!

On Sunday, we went to my baby cousin’s baptism. He got baptised in the church. Father Roach baptised him by washing away his sins with the holy water. After he washed baby Luke on the head, we made the sign of the cross. After we had the baptism, we took photos of him. He was like a popular person because people kept on taking photos of him. My cousin and I went into the car while this was going on.

After that, we went home to get our jackets because it was raining outside. While we were inside, I went to get my cousin’s iPad. When I was on the iPad, I downloaded a game from the app store. The game that I downloaded was called ‘Dead trigger’. Then my Mum called my cousin and I because we were going to Valentines for lunch.

When we got to Valentines, I was happy because it was a long drive there. My parents paid for us and then we walked inside. There was a lot of food for us to eat when I walked in. There was sushi, chicken and many more yummy food. We went to go find a table. The kids found a long oval-shaped table. We said our prayers before we went to get our food.

I got sushi, prawn, fish, chicken and chips with tomato sauce. I took a bite of everything and it was yummy. When I finished the savory food, I went to get chocolate eclair, some ice cream, jelly and a piece of fruit for dessert. It was rich and sweet. After I ate my dessert, I went to go get a hot chocola It was puffy on the inside.

Then my parents had a little talk with Father. The kids went outside to go and see the goldfish. There were two goldfish in the pond and they were swimming around. They were orange and yellow. The first time I looked in the pond, I thought they were rocks.Then my Mum came out and said ''We are all going now''. I hope I come back to Valentines again.

WALT write a recount with adjectives and adverbs to make my writing more interesting.
